Best Buy Co. Inc. enjoyed a strong 2007, posting strong revenue gains, opening new stores and expanding its store-within-a-store concepts. The Richfield-based electronics retailer’s revenue jumped 16.5 percent to $35.93 billion in fiscal 2007, which ended March 3. Revenue was up 14.5 percent through the first half of fiscal 2008.

The items listed as safe include iPods, Mac Desktops, Apple Displays and Apple software, while questionable items include the iPhone and MacBooks. iPods are listed as safe because they were only recently updated but if a 32GB iPod Touch emerges anyone buying a 16GB model now will surely be disappointed.

Submitted by Mitchell Ashley on Mon, 12/31/2007 - 2:28pm. To ring in the 2008 new year, three French developers are releasing a hack for the Apple iPod Touch, enabling it to make VoIP calls. My assumption is they ve added the SIP protocol stack to the touch and are using the WiFi capabilities to make VoIP calls. Will Apple stand for this, or turn back the French dudes at the door this time bricking Touch devices? Not so fast, Quickdraw. No ATT contracts like the iPhone to get in the way.

While Apple may have finally managed to close down uber-rumour site ThinkSecret that hasn’t stopped the information leaks. Just one day after firmware 1.1.3 slipped into the world high flying Variety magazine is reporting that 24 hour iTunes movie rentals are coming early next year (or this year in a few hours…). The heavily laced DRM titles will be available with prices ranging from $2 up to $5 - most likely dependant on the flick’s age - with Disney and Fox content leading the way.

Biggest Apple Leaks in 2007

To round-out the 2007 year of rumoring, here is a wrap up of some of the biggest leaks from 2007. 9to5Mac first posted a mockup of the shorter/wider iPod nano on July 17th which was met with skepticism: There’s not even a tiny chance that Apple would release something that daft. - emotion Later, 9to5mac released actual “spy photos” ( mirror ) of the new iPods in a number of different colors. Apple responded with Cease and Desist letters and the images were pulled from various websites.

When Nick Ciarelli was 13 years old in 1998, he started a simple website that tracked rumors involving Apple, Inc. In 2005, he posted news revealing details of the Mac Mini before anyone else, and it landed him in hot water with the Jobster. Apple took Mr. Ciarelli to court to force him to reveal his source, so they could plug up the leak. A legal debate ensued to decide whether bloggers were considered journalists, thus determining whether their sources were protected as well.

Disney will officially announce in January at MacWorld that it will join Apple s iTunes movie rental service. The service will allow users to rent downloaded movies for $2-$5 per day. Apple hopes the service will compete with Netflix, Blockbuster and On-Demand rentals.
