3G iPhone in Stores in June?

Authored by Jay Baage on December 6, 2007 - 2:56pm. So you plan to give someone an iPhone for Christmas or even treat yourself to one of these little tech wonders? Well, you might be well advised to hold on to your old Blackberry for a few more months. A report today suggests that Apple (NASD: AAPL) plans to have a faster and better 3G iPhone on store shelves by June at the latest.

CNBC’s Jim Goldman has reported that a source close to Apple’s manufacturing facilities has confirmed that the company will have a 3G iPhone on shelves by late May or early June. Moreover, the report suggests that the company will launch its buzzy sub-notebook at Macworld in January of 2008 (aggressively at approximately $1500) as well as Apple’s iPod Touch has been selling far better than expected so far during the holiday shopping season.

So, why is a 3G iPhone worth waiting for? Well, the data speeds are much faster. To get the most out of Internet-based applications like mobile TV and streaming video, a 3G phone is vastly superior to a 2,5 G phone. So, unless you really want to get hold of an iPhone in time for Christmas (I don’t blame you, it’s a fantastic device), you might want to hold off just a few months to get a vastly superior product.
