iPhone, Therefore I Blog

Take a look at the picture that accompanies this post. This is a screenshot from NBC’s “Chuck,” and that, callers, is what’s purported to be an incoming MMS on an iPhone. Now we know that the iPhone doesn’t support MMS — yet — but it does here on TV. And look at it … it’s simple and perfect and almost Apple-like. In fact, it would almost seem as though this is a real iPhone feature that’s soon to be implemented. But trust me …

Apple isn’t going to let the cat out of the bag on an NBC show based on all the trouble NBC and Apple are having. So why all the fake iPhone features? I don’t really know, but if the scene calls for an MMS, it’s silly to show a character check his e-mail and find the photo. MMS is a feature that should have been included with the iPhone from the start. We’ve been down this road before … why is there no MMS on the iPhone? Is it Apple’s doing or AT&T or both? It’s hard to say …

most basic cell phones have MMS, which really is nothing more than a picture or some other form of multimedia via a text message. Clearly, simple to add with a basic software/firmware update. I still think we’ll see it before too long and I think AT&T will use the opportunity to charge us more for them — even though there’s no reason to - but I do think it’s coming. So for now, the old As Seen On TV is more important than ever because that’s where all the cool iPhones live.

Now if we can just get all the actors to hold them right side up. And remember … when you see an iPhone on TV — whether it’s got fake features or not — please make sure you write in and let me know so I can keep track of it.
