Best Buy adds Apple stores and MOA site; Staples enters Cities

Best Buy Co. Inc. enjoyed a strong 2007, posting strong revenue gains, opening new stores and expanding its store-within-a-store concepts. The Richfield-based electronics retailer’s revenue jumped 16.5 percent to $35.93 billion in fiscal 2007, which ended March 3. Revenue was up 14.5 percent through the first half of fiscal 2008.
The company added Apple Computer mini-shops inside 300 of its retail stores, expanded its Best Buy Mobile concept to nearly 200 locations, started selling musical instruments at some stores and added Mac and Dell computers. Meanwhile, it stopped selling analog televisions. Best Buy continued its search for its first downtown Minneapolis store, signing a letter of intent for a Whole Foods-anchored development at Washington and Hennepin avenues.
The company later dropped those plans; officials continue to negotiate with the IDS Center .
