Japanese operator NTT has unveiled partnerships with Apple and Nintendo to provide internet access to the device makers’ customers. NTT will offer free access to around 700 hot spots in Japan to users of Apple’s iPod music player, reports The Nikkei. By offering limited free access to the hot spots, NTT hopes the iPod users will eventually sign up for its paid access plans.
The agreement will start from December, giving access at hot spots in places such as Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants, Tully’s Coffee shops and most Tokyo subway stations. NTT has also confirmed a partnership with Nintendo to help Wii owners use the internet access on the gaming console. NTT East and NTT West have started operating call centres jointly with Nintendo to provide consultation and support for Wii’s internet connection, according to news agency reports.
