I am absolutely content with Apple catering to a higher niche crowd. You don’t have to be upper middle class, or wealthy, to afford a Macintosh computer. I am a University student and I was able to use my loan to purchase this Mac. I see people spending $400 on PlayStation 3 and they buy five games at $60 a pop, without blinking, but they consider the Mac to be an expensive brand.
If you are truly interested in the Mac experience, then the current price range (as low as $1,000 as high as $3,000) isn’t too steep, as long as you don’t go for the most cutting edge Apple products. Then again, even the low tier Apple items, have a high tier experience.
Nobody would expect Ferrari to produce three door hatch backs for $25,000, so why do people always expect Apple to create some low end product? Some companies are meant for people who are willing to make an investment, or who can merely afford the initial buy in. Though in Apple’s case, it is more on the investment end. They even have monthly payment plans in the $30 price range, for those who want to get a Mac, but can’t easily (or expeditiously) save money.
