New MacBook Pro identifier hints that an update is imminent
Posted on 2008 under MacBook Pro |31 Jan
As anyone who spends lots of quality time with System Profiler knows, each Apple model (MacBook, iMac, etc.) has a different identification string, which changes over time as models are revised. The current MacBook Pros use the string MacBookPro3,1 , but a new MacBookPro4,1 string has been popping up in several places. One instance of the string popped up in the MiniBatteryLogger public logs, and apparently came from an Apple IP address.
The MacBookPro4,1 identifier has also cropped up in the latest 10.5.2 build, so it seems to be a bit more than coincidence.
