In a departure from their operating procedure of most years, Apple this week released new products ahead of the start of Macworld, with the company announcing a new version of the Mac Pro, a week before Steve Jobs keynote. The system is touted as the fastest Mac ever. According to Wired.com, Apple will release an eight-core Mac Pro system, with a new system architecture that delivers twice the performance of its predecessor.

This is made possible by the addition of Intel s new quad-core Xeon processors, as announced this week at CES. Macworld is scheduled to take place in San Francisco Jan. 14-18. Apple told the blog Gizmodo that the announcement was made a week before MacWorld, instead of during the event, because We re very excited about these new products and we think our customers will be too so we wanted to kick off 2008 by getting them into our customers hands as soon as possible.

The company also shot down rumors that a Blu-ray Disc drive would be included in the new Mac Pro. Going to Macworld? Discuss it in the Dealerscope forums.
