Visitors flock to Cromford for Apple Day

A bumper year of apple-growing caused a windfall for Dales villagers at their annual Apple Day. Visitors flocked to Cromford to have their apples crushed in one of three traditional presses. Folk music group The Well Dressed Band entertained around 50 guests on The Promenade and stalls sold locally-sourced goods. Organiser David Mitchell said: “It was very busy with three presses working furiously for four hours.
“It’s been a great year for growing and we got through about 400 weight of apples.” Cromford’s pigs enjoyed the day too, as they tucked into 14 boxes of waste pulp left over after the event.
