Morgan analyst Mark Moskowitz in upgrading the stock to ‘њoverweight’ќ from ‘њneutral.’ќ ‘њThere has been considerable investor concern lately over the Apple model losing steam, particularly if the consumer . . . rolls over,’ќ Mr. Moskowitz says in a research note to clients.

As it turns out, the new notebooks from Apple come with integrated support for iPhone headsets. Big deal, right? So you can use a set of standard 3.5mm headphones with a laptop that has a 3.5mm jack, right? Well, the integration actually goes further than that.

Today Apple briefed journalists in the UK about the refreshed range of computers.

Computerworld TodayShow all RSS feeds Apple Tuesday unveiled an entirely new lineup of laptop Macs, carved from blocks of aluminum for strength and lower costs, and equipped with powerful graphics chipsets. The new MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air designs are intended to build on Apple’s fast-growing sales in the notebook market. Executives say Apple has now over 17% of the U.S. retail notebook market and has supplanted Dell as the market leader in the all-important education market, at 39%.

Last quarter, Apple achieved a 36.9 percent return on every dollar of sales. Dell, the company that once set the bar for profit margins, could only manage 18.3 percent. HP did 24.7 percent. In part, this is because Dell and HP sell a lot of cheap PCs. They get the edge in volume, but Apple seems pretty happy with its small, very profitable slice of the PC pie. The thing is, change is coming, and I’m not talking about the presidential election. Two factors should force Apple to change strategies.

Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies introduces water-powered fuel cells that can generate enough power to recharge cell phones, music players, and even laptop computers. The lawsuit represents a continuation of a long-running legal fight between Apple and Luxpro. It alleges that Apple has used illegal tactics, such pressuring Luxpro’s retail partners to stop selling Luxpro music players, in an attempt to monopolize the MP3 music player market. Luxpro was founded in December of 2002.
