Our feelings about Griffin s Streamline are substantially similar to the ones we had for its prior iPhone and iPod touch version: the company uses an interesting combination of neoprene, hard plastic, elastic and Velcro to create a case that here is thankfully specific to only the iPod nano. It provides one hole for access to the nano s headphone port compatible with even oversized headphones - and another for insertion of the nano.

We weren t as impressed with the multi-iPod/iPhone version of SportWrap, primarily because it doesn t feel especially well suited for any of the models that it s designed to fit. Four headphone port-slash-Hold switch/Sleep/Wake button holes have been placed on its back, but none is perfectly aligned to those parts of the iPhone or the iPod classic.

Both cases are fine, not spectacular, in their approach to iPod coverage. Each one exposes the entire bottom of the iPod in order to guarantee full compatibility with Universal iPod Dock accessories, and succeeds; the price of such exposure is that the iPod classic s bottom sides are unnecessarily exposed at all other times when it s not in a dock. So too are its Hold switch and top-mounted headphone port, the latter cut perfectly to fit any size of headphone plug you may have.

Speck ArmorSkin for iPod nano 3G

Comparing the nano versions of these cases is fairly straightforward. ArmorSkin covers a little more of the nano and costs $5 more. To our eyes, it looks better especially in clear, where it better shows off the body of the iPod inside with a seriously cool rounded block pattern on its back and sides. It s also not as easy to use with iPod accessories, the only feature omission that we consider serious here.
