Apple and outside analysts said the program, referred to as Leap-A, is not a virus per se. An Apple representative told CNET News.com that a “small number” of customers have experienced the problem, which has been fixed in production.

He says that, according to a French newspaper , “Mac Pro owners run the risk of getting diseases as dangerous as leukemia (blood cancer) simply by using their computer.” The reason, according to Liberation : Mac Pro computers may emit a smell that’s the result of several toxic elements used in the manufacture of the devices, including benzene.

APPLE’s popular Mac Pro computer gives off toxic cancer-causing gas, the French newspaper Liberation has alleged. In news that has sparked an internal investigation by Apple and frenzied tech-blogging overseas, Liberation newspaper cited findings that the computer emits seven volatile organic contaminants including styrene, benzene and its derivatives. Benzene, a known carcinogen damages bone marrow and can decrease red blood cells, leading to leukemia and other blood cancers.
