Mac OS X 10.5.2 is expected to squash 76 bugs, many of which have drawn the ire of Mac users on both PowerPC and Intel platforms. It’s become increasingly clear since Leopard launched in October that PowerPC Mac owners have been particularly hard hit by the upgrade. This is arguably because Apple devoted most of its development time and testing on the Intel version used in the latest Macs, rather than on older ‘legacy’ hardware.

Ciarelli, who had posted stories about the Mac Mini that the company claimed violated trade secret laws, announced Thursday that the long-running case filed against him by Apple had been settled. Ciarelli’s lawyer, Terry Gross of San Francisco’s Gross & Belsky, said his client was “very satisfied” with the deal. He declined to describe the terms of the settlement beyond Ciarelli’s announcement that he would shut down his site and that no sources were revealed.

Intel’s ultrathin Lorado notebook concept is a winner , vying with the best designs from Apple, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, and Toshiba. The problem is: Intel doesn’t manufacture laptops. Maybe it should. (Though Intel is arguably three quarters–or more–of the way there already because it makes most of the core components.) Riveting notebook designs are hard to come by. Thus the Apple envy that exists for some users forced to use prosaic Windows-based business notebooks.

Apple had originally dismissed this as a hardware issue, offering to replace keyboards and notebooks. But while the majority of complaints did come from users of “straight out of the box” Intel-based Macs, one user reported having the same problem after installing Leopard on a G4 PowerMac.

Apple security patches ‘match’ last month’s 19/12/2007 Apple’s security patches for this month included fixes for Leopard, Tiger and Mac OS X and reached the 200 mark for patches it has issued throughout the year.

December Golden Apple Winner

This month s Golden Apple Award winner is a 4th grade teacher at North Hart Elementary School, and he s also an assistant football coach for the Hart County Bulldogs. Brooks Mewborn says a former coach had inspired him to make a difference in someone s life. And, he hopes to do the same for his students on and off the field.

The Athens High School Show Choir may soon be on its way to the Big Apple, but not before it comes up with some big money to get there. Show Choir members have held many fund-raisers planned to raise the $10,000 needed to send the group of 10 to New York City. The trip is planned for May 7-11. The group is mostly seniors, and they would love to go to New York before they graduate, AHS Choir Director Kern Railsback said.

The site has long been a source of Mac news, and many have looked to it as a revealing source of “almost inside” information about Apple’s upcoming products. It almost seems counterproductive for Apple to go after them, but they certainly have and have succeeded in getting the site shut down.

Apple, the maker of iPod portable digital media player and Macintosh computers, plans to utilize Intel s code-named Silverthorne central processing units (CPUs) next year. While the details about the exact device are uncertain, it is known that Silverthorne was designed specifically for so-called mobile Internet devices (MIDs). According to AppleInsider web-site, Apple would soon emerge as one of the largest supporters of Intel s Menlow mobile Internet device (MID) platform .

According to Ars Technica , Think Secret successfully predicted the introduction of the Mac mini as well as iWork in 2005. Apple sued the site, run by Harvard undergrad Nick Ciarelli, who started the site when he was 13. The suit alleged the stories gave away company secrets and tried to force Ciarelli to name his sources. The case became one of several challenging the distinction between bloggers and journalists.
