Amazon.com is currently offering Apple’s 13.3-inch White 2.2GHz MacBook with 1GB of memory, a 120GB hard drive, and an 8x SuperDrive DVD/CD burner for $1,219 after a $75 rebate. Apple’s online store is selling its current-generation 1GB iPod shuffle in blue, green, pink, and orange for $79 each alongside previous generation 4GB iPod nanos in pink, red, and blue for $149 each. The company’s previous generation 8GB iPod nano is also available in black and red for $179.

You’d think that if anyone were going to make a remote control in the shape of an Apple it would be, well, Apple. Not in this case, though. The idea with this design concept is that each member of the family would have their own Apple Remote . The remote is hand-sized, and has a very simple button structure on it. Each individual can program their Apple to best meet their TV watching needs.

The patches cover a number of vulnerabilities, including a streaming media vulnerability, for which an exploit was discovered circulating in the wild last month. The new QuickTime 7.3.1, repairs problems in the way the program handles media content. The new patch, available for both Mac and Windows, addresses a widely reported buffer overflow error in the Real-Time Streaming Protocol, which allows viewers to watch video or listen to music at the same time it is being downloaded.

Back in the 1990s, Apple Tree Theatre was known for intimate, serious musicals. These productions — “Violet” in 1999 comes to mind, as does “Assassins” in 1996 and “The Baker’s Wife” in 1990 — featured top-flight Equity actors and directors. They often championed the work of gifted young composers such as Jeanine Tesori. They introduced new, challenging material to the Chicago area. And they were superbly sung.

The firm has shipped 2.16 million Macs, 400,000 above the June quarter’s all-time record for Apple and representing 34% growth over the year-ago quarter. On a worldwide basis, Apple’’s growth rate was over two times IDC’s most recently published market growth rates for the September quarter. Customers responded very favorably to the new iMacs announced in August, driving 31% year-over-year growth in desktop systems. Demand for Apple’’s Macbooks and Macbook Pros continued to be very strong.

Google, Apple are Laggards

77 stocks in the Nasdaq 100 are trading lower. Some of the large-cap names that have had the biggest runs this year are the main laggards, including Apple (AAPL 185.81, -4.62), Google (GOOG 677.26, -12.70) and Research In Motion (RIMM 102.14, -3.81). Apple, Google, and Research In Motion are up 124%, 50%, and 149%, respectively, year-to-date.
