Note: This is a Page 2 News Item Reports claim that MacBook Pro supplies are dwindling at major retailers such as Best Buy. Checks with several popular online stores indicate continued stock, though Best Buy’s Canadian affiliate, Future Shop, claims to be out of stock of the 2.2GHz version [of the MacBook Pro]. Apple has been widely expected to upgrade the MacBook Pros to recently released Penryn processors.

I gave up on the PC this summer. I had a small footprint Asus that had it’s second power supply fail. As it was impossible to source the power supply locally I finally bit the bullet and bought a 24″ iMac. It took about a week to get used to it, I was running Windows XP in Parallels during the transition, but now I’m all Mac and have found that it’s much more productive.

As anyone who spends lots of quality time with System Profiler knows, each Apple model (MacBook, iMac, etc.) has a different identification string, which changes over time as models are revised. The current MacBook Pros use the string MacBookPro3,1 , but a new MacBookPro4,1 string has been popping up in several places. One instance of the string popped up in the MiniBatteryLogger public logs, and apparently came from an Apple IP address.

If you already own another computer to balance out the MacBook Air’s limitations at home or work, you may not even notice them. Even if you don’t rely on another Mac, an external hard drive - either connected directly or shared via an AirPort Extreme or the new Time Capsule - may be all you need, though it’s still a wise idea to get the USB SuperDrive,” Faas reports.

Signing an Asian partner is key for Jobs, who has set a sales goal of 10 million iPhones by the end of the year.
