One analyst, however, warned that Apple didn’t slash prices far enough. “The entry-level $999 MacBook price point may be insufficient to offset competition ($500-$800 laptops) and mitigate the risk of headwinds from slowing consumer spending,” said Mike Abramsky of RBC Capital Markets in a research note on Wednesday.

“There are many people in the environmental movement who have been highly critical of Apple. With Apple launching a MacBook priced of US$999, the Chinese-language Apply Daily is reporting that the notebook orders were split between Quanta Computer and Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry). In addition to manufacturing the notebook, Foxconn will also be responsible for supplying component for the notebook, the report indicated.
