I first wrote about my disdain for glossy displays back in January with the announcement of the MacBook Air. What started as an option on the MacBook Pro, became the only choice on the MacBook. Then the iMac. The MacBook Air. Now Apple s gone 100 percent glossy across their entire line (as I warned they would several times): notebooks, desktops and monitors.

With Apple launching a MacBook priced of US$999, the Chinese-language Apply Daily is reporting that the notebook orders were split between Quanta Computer and Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry). In addition to manufacturing the notebook, Foxconn will also be responsible for supplying component for the notebook, the report indicated.

Video: Priced to move? Apple updates existing models and cuts the price on its least expensive laptop to under $1,000. (Oct. 14) “With consumers slipping into a funk and potentially losing their appetite for high-end anything, fielding a more competitive low-end product could have provided an added measure of security,” wrote Oppenheimer & Co. analyst Yair Reiner, in a note Wednesday called “Tippy-toe to the Low-end,” in which he repeated his outperform rating.
