Yesterday, Apple CEO Steve Jobs, COO Tim Cook, and a number of other Cupertino execs made their way onto a stage in front of a number of excited reporters to pitch this: upgrades. Two new MacBook Pro models will soon be revealed (a 2.53 GHz model for $2,499 and a 2.4 GHz model for $1,999), along with a new MacBook made of aluminum like its Pro big brother. The shiny new MacBook will range in price based on specs from $1,299 to $1,599.

The new 13.3 MacBook Like the new MacBook Pros, the MacBooks feature a pair of USB 2.0 ports, a mini DisplayPort socket along with Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n wireless networking and a built-in iSight camera - bizarrely there’s no Firewire port, though. The new models weigh almost a quarter of a kilo less than the older MacBook at just over 2kg and they’re also thinner as well at 24mm. There was also an updated MacBook Air announced, but nearly all of the flaws with the initial design remain.

The new MacBook Air looks the same as the original Air, but Apple squeezes a mini DisplayPort connection under the flap that hides the lone USB port and headphone jack. As with the MacBook and MacBook Pro refreshes, the new MacBook Air ditches the Intel chipset for Nvidia and features integrated GeForce 9400M graphics.
