MFS making market commentary available to advisers via iTunes Why download music when you could instead be listening to a market outlook forecast from MFS Investment Management? Yes, the Boston-based firm, which has $183 billion in assets under management, announced this week the availability of its market commentary podcasts through Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple Inc.’s iTunes store. MFS has also added real simple syndication feeds to the News and Commentary section of its website, mfs.com.

When Apple announced yesterday that iTunes has sold 200 million TV shows over the last three years, the company clearly expected Hollywood and network executives to stand up and cheer. They didn’t. As Silicon Valley Insider pointed out , if most of those shows are sold at the fixed price of $1.99 a pop, then the networks and studios get $280 million from their 70 percent cut. That comes out to a shared pot of $93 million a year.

October 20, 2008, 5:20 PM Tenacious Taiwanese MP3 player company Luxpro has yet again engaged in litigation with Apple over its Super Tangent (nee Super Shuffle) MP3 player. In 2005, Luxpro debuted an MP3 device called the “Super Shuffle,” a screenless media player that looked nearly identical to Apple’s First Generation iPod Shuffle . Apple won an injunction against the device for its use of “shuffle” in the name.
This is seen as the benchmark test for Apple and the rest of the music download industry. Thon told the newspaper IHT that Apple has had two years to respond to the Norwegian demands, but has remained silent. Apple now has until 3 November to respond to the charges. The Market Council will likely make its decision on the matter early in 2009.

Apple has announced that all four of the major networks are offering primetime programs in stunning high definition on the iTunes Store (www.itunes.com), including viewer favorites Grey s Anatomy and Lost from ABC, CSI and CSI: Miami from CBS, Bones and Prison Break airing on FOX, and Heroes and The Office from NBC Universal.
