The site’s demise prompted outrage from some Apple followers, but in this case David — aka Nicholas Ciarelli — got his own happy ending: freedom from having to run the site anymore. Ciarelli, 22, graduates this spring and said he was more than ready to abandon the site he had run since he was a 13-year-old Mac fanatic. He also received a payment from Apple, according to a person familiar with the case. Both sides declined to discuss details of the agreement.

In a year that’s already seen Apple set records for quarterly Mac sales and sell 1 million iPhones within 74 days of the device’s launch, the company appears to have another best-seller on its hands. Initial sales figures of the Leopard update to Mac OS X make OS X 10.5 the best launch of a Mac OS ever, according to figures compiled by a market-research firm.

The guy from Symantec is just wrong. Since Mac OS X doesn t run in administrative mode, and due to the lack of Internet Explorer, and due to the fact that programs don t run without the user s choosing, among many other things, Mac OS X is NOT NEARLY as vulnerable to the attacks that Windows computers see. Also, viruses can t spread nearly as well among Mac computers as they can for Windows. Just look at those write-a-mac-virus contestants or hackers who have tried to hack a Mac.

The second issue in CUPS relates to SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). “The CUPS back-end SNMP program broadcasts SNMP requests to discover network print servers. A stack buffer overflow may result from an integer underflow in the handling of SNMP responses,” Apple said in an advisory.

Sonic Speeds Onto Your iPod

The video game icon is available now for purchase at the iTunes Store for $4.99. And if you already have it for the Virtual Console or XBLA, then you can go ahead and give the game as a gift. You’ll be able to use the traditional game soundtrack, or a playlist of your own choosing. I’d like to play a little Sonic while Lilac Wine plays in the background, that could be interesting. But the general recommendation would be to keep the standard soundtrack.

Sadly there is a valid reason for the return window. It s not unlike many major computer manufacturers, and the reason for it is the few scumbags that purchase a computer for a one time use, like a term paper or dissertation, and pack it up after the work is done, for a refund. Kind of a cheap, free rental plan. This went on long enough to cause the manufacturers to take action, IE the return restocking fee.
